A security vulnerability in the Solaris dircmp(1) shell script may allow
overwriting of arbitrary files:

1. Impact

A race condition security vulnerability in the Solaris dircmp(1)
command may allow a local unprivileged user to overwrite or create
arbitrary files on the system based on the privileges of the user
calling dircmp(1).
Sun would like to acknowledge, with thanks, River Tarnell of the
Wikimedia Foundation for bringing this issue to our attention.

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
      * Solaris 8 without patch 140837-01
      * Solaris 9 without patch 138896-01
      * Solaris 10 without patch 141014-01
      * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_111

x86 Platform
      * Solaris 8 without patch 140838-01
      * Solaris 9 without patch 138897-01
      * Solaris 10 without patch 141015-01
      * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_111

Note: OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes above
and beyond the build from which it was derived.  To determine the base
build of OpenSolaris, the following command can be used:
     $ uname -v
     snv_101

3. Symptoms

There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described
issue has occurred.

4. Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution
section below.

5. Resolution

This issue is addressed in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
      * Solaris 8 with patch 140837-01 or later
      * Solaris 9 with patch 138896-01 or later
      * Solaris 10 with patch 141014-01 or later
      * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_112 or later

x86 Platform
      * Solaris 8 with patch 140838-01 or later
      * Solaris 9 with patch 138897-01 or later
      * Solaris 10 with patch 141015-01 or later
      * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_112 or later
