ZDI-07-061: RealNetworks RealPlayer SWF Processing Remote Code Execution
Vulnerability
http://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-07-061.html
October 25, 2007

- -- CVE ID:
CVE-2007-2263

- -- Affected Vendor:
RealNetworks

- -- Affected Products:
RealNetworks RealPlayer version 10.5

- -- TippingPoint(TM) IPS Customer Protection:
TippingPoint IPS customers have been protected against this
vulnerability since February 15, 2007 by Digital Vaccine protection
filter ID 5070,5071,5072. For further product information on the
TippingPoint IPS:

    http://www.tippingpoint.com

- -- Vulnerability Details:
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on
systems with vulnerable installations of the RealNetworks RealPlayer.
User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the
target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.

The specific flaw exists in RealPlayer's parsing of SWF files. The SWF
rendering DLL RealPlayer uses fails to properly handle malformed record
headers leading to an exploitable overflow. An attacker could exploit
this vulnerability using an ActiveX control
{CFCDAA03-8BE4-11cf-B84B-0020AFBBCCFA} and embedding the malicious swf
file in the page or by convincing an affected user to directly open a
SWF file using RealPlayer.

- -- Vendor Response:
RealNetworks has issued an update to correct this vulnerability. More
details can be found at:

http://service.real.com/realplayer/security/10252007_player/en/

- -- Disclosure Timeline:
2007.01.17 - Vulnerability reported to vendor
2007.02.15 - Digital Vaccine released to TippingPoint customers
2007.10.25 - Coordinated public release of advisory

ZDI-07-062: RealNetworks RealPlayer PLS File Memory Corruption
Vulnerability
http://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-07-062.html
October 25, 2007

- -- CVE ID:
CVE-2007-4599

- -- Affected Vendor:
RealNetworks

- -- Affected Products:
RealNetworks RealPlayer version 10.5

- -- TippingPoint(TM) IPS Customer Protection:
TippingPoint IPS customers have been protected against this
vulnerability since April 26, 2007 by Digital Vaccine protection
filter ID 5212. For further product information on the TippingPoint IPS:

- -- Vulnerability Details:
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute code on vulnerable
installations of RealPlayer. User interaction is required in that a user
must open a malicious .pls file or visit a malicious web site.

The specific flaw exists during the parsing of corrupted playlist
files. Malicious corruption causes RealPlayer to call into a static
heap address which can be leveraged by an attacker resulting in
arbitrary code execution under the context of the logged in user.

ZDI-07-063: RealPlayer RA Field Size File Processing Heap Oveflow
Vulnerability
http://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-07-063.html
October 25, 2007

- -- CVE ID:
CVE-2007-2264

- -- Affected Vendor:
RealNetworks RealPlayer version 10.5

- -- Affected Products:
RealPlayer 6.x

- -- TippingPoint(TM) IPS Customer Protection:
TippingPoint IPS customers have been protected against this
vulnerability since April 26, 2007 by Digital Vaccine protection
filter ID 5214. For further product information on the TippingPoint IPS:

    http://www.tippingpoint.com

- -- Vulnerability Details:
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute code on vulnerable
installations of RealPlayer. User interaction is required in that a
user must open a malicious .ra/.ram file or visit a malicious web
site.

The specific flaw exists during the parsing of files with improperly
defined size field in the RA header. Specifying a large unsigned value
data can trigger a heap corruption and further result in arbitrary code
execution under the context of the logged in user.
