1. Impact

    Two security vulnerabilities in Solaris ld.so.1(1) may allow a local
    unprivileged user to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.

2. Contributing Factors

    These issues can occur in the following releases:

    SPARC Platform

      * Solaris 8 without patch 109147-42
      * Solaris 9 without patch 112963-27
      * Solaris 10

    x86 Platform

      * Solaris 8 without patch 109148-41
      * Solaris 9 without patch 113986-22
      * Solaris 10

3. Symptoms

    There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate these issues have
    been exploited.

4. Relief/Workaround

    There is no workaround for these issues. Please see the Resolution
    section below.

    Interim Security Relief (ISRs) are available from
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/tpatches for the following releases:

    SPARC Platform

      * Solaris 10 IDR124828-01

    x86 Platform

      * Solaris 10 IDR124829-01

    Note: This document refers to one or more Interim Security Relief (ISRs)
    which are designed to address the concerns identified herein. Sun has
    limited experience with these (ISRs) due to their interim nature. As
    such, you should only install the (ISRs) on systems meeting the
    configurations described above. Sun may release full patches at a later
    date, however, Sun is under no obligation whatsoever to create, release,
    or distribute any such patch.

5. Resolution

    These issues are addressed in the following releases:

    SPARC Platform

      * Solaris 8 with patch 109147-42 or later
      * Solaris 9 with patch 112963-27 or later

    x86 Platform

      * Solaris 8 with patch 109148-41 or later
      * Solaris 9 with patch 113986-22 or later

    A final resolution for Solaris 10 is pending completion. Please see the
    Relief/Workaround section of this Sun Alert for an interim resolution.
