1. Impact

    A security issue with Process File System (procfs) may allow a local
    unprivileged user to have visibility of process working directories
    for all other system and user processes. This may lead to users being
    able to see file names in directories that might otherwise be
    inaccessible.

2. Contributing Factors

    This issue can occur in the following releases:

    SPARC Platform
      * Solaris 10 without patch 118822-19

    X86 Platform
      * Solaris 10 without patch 118844-19

    Note: Solaris 8 and 9 are not impacted by this issue.

    Solaris 7 will not be evaluated regarding the potential impact of the
    issue described in this Sun Alert document.

3. Symptoms

    There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described
    issue has been exploited.

4. Relief/Workaround

    There is no workaround, please see Resolution section below.

5. Resolution

    This issue is addressed in the following releases:

    SPARC Platform
      * Solaris 10 with patch 118822-19 or later

    X86 Platform
      * Solaris 10 with patch 118844-19 or later
