HP SECURITY BULLETIN

HPSBMA01166 REVISION: 0

SSRT5955 rev.0 HP VCRM Proxy Server Password Error

NOTICE:
There are no restrictions for distribution of this Security
Bulletin provided that it remains complete and intact.

The information in this Security Bulletin should be acted upon
as soon as possible.

INITIAL RELEASE:
21 June 2005

POTENTIAL SECURITY IMPACT:
The proxy password is partially compromised and
VCRM Automatic Updates will not occur.

SOURCE:
Hewlett-Packard Company
HP Software Security Response Team

VULNERABILITY SUMMARY:
The Version Control Repository Manager (VCRM) does not
properly accept a Proxy Server password that contains
the special character "Commercial AT" (@). The "@"
character and any character that follows appear
incorrectly as part of the Proxy Server name. As
a result, VCRM Automatic Updates will not occur.

Second, as a result of the "@" the proxy password is
partially compromised since a passerby could see the
part starting with the "@" character displayed in the
     name field.

Note: If only the Proxy Server Name and Port are set, the
               Proxy field is displayed correctly.
